Compassionate Women's Health & Gynecological Care

Intimate health concerns can be uncomfortable to experience—and often even harder to talk about. Whether you're experiencing itching, irritation, unusual discharge, discomfort, recurrent infections, or simply have questions about changes in your body, you deserve compassionate care in a safe, judgment-free environment.

As a naturopathic doctor, Dr. Michelle Heighington, ND offers gentle gynecological assessments to help identify common vaginal and vulvar conditions, while taking the time to understand your overall health. Rather than simply treating symptoms, she works with you to uncover possible contributing factors and develop a personalized treatment plan that supports your whole body.

Conditions We Can Assess

A basic gynecological examination may help identify concerns such as:

  • Vaginal and vulvar itching

  • Recurrent yeast infections (candidiasis)

  • Bacterial vaginosis (BV)

  • Vulvar skin conditions, including lichen sclerosus

  • Vaginal irritation, redness, or discomfort

  • Abnormal vaginal discharge

  • Vaginal atrophy

  • Other common vaginal and vulvar concerns

When appropriate, vaginal swabs can be performed during your visit to help identify or rule out infections such as candidiasis and bacterial vaginosis, allowing for more targeted treatment recommendations.

A Whole-Person Approach

While treating the immediate concern is important, recurrent vaginal symptoms are often influenced by factors beyond the vagina itself. Hormonal changes, digestive health, the vaginal and gut microbiome, stress, immune function, blood sugar balance, medications, nutrition, and lifestyle can all play a role.

Your treatment plan is designed to address both symptom relief and the underlying factors that may be contributing to recurrent or persistent symptoms whenever possible.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

Your comfort and consent are our priority throughout the entire visit.

Before the examination, we'll discuss your symptoms, medical history, and any questions or concerns you may have. Dr. Michelle Heighington, ND will explain each step of the examination before it happens, so you'll always know what to expect, and you are welcome to pause or stop the examination at any time.

Following the exam, we'll review the findings together, discuss what they may mean, and outline the next steps. There is always time to ask questions—even the ones that may feel awkward or embarrassing. Dr. Heighington's goal is to create a space where you feel listened to, respected, and empowered to better understand your health.

You should leave your appointment feeling informed, supported, and confident in your personalized care plan.
