Solution Focused Therapy

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

This is a type of treatment that takes a strength-based approach to psychotherapy based on solution-building rather than problem-solving. Viewing the client as an expert in themselves rather than the therapist, SFBT used different techniques and questions to highlight someone’s strengths, resources, and desires in life, which helps shift the focus on what is already working in the client’s life, and how things might look after therapy.

SFBT is designed for clients who are trying to reach a goal or overcome a particular problem. It can be used as a stand alone intervention, or combined with other evidence-based therapies. A typical SFBT program consists of 5 to 8 sessions, in which client and therapist don’t explore old, unresolved psychological wounds, but rather, focus on finding solutions to ongoing problems.
